Dr. Maya believes strongly in treating the whole person and supporting each individual’s innate ability to heal. Her approach centers on meeting patients where they are in their unique health journeys and guiding individuals to tune into and honour their inner wisdom while navigating the tools that are most appropriate for their overall healing.
Through her own experiences seeking care, Dr. Maya dealt with many of the same frustrations as other patients: a lack of exploration into foundational aspects of health, such as nutrition, lifestyle, spirituality, psychosocial factors, and environmental exposures. With a deep appreciation of Eastern spirituality and traditional systems of health, including Ayurveda, she was drawn to naturopathic medicine as a field that blends the wisdom of traditional healing practices with the tools of modern medicine.
Dr. Maya enjoys supporting patients with a variety of health concerns. A few areas of special interest for her include mental and neurologic health, environmental medicine, metabolic and thyroid imbalances, and gastrointestinal health. She completed a mental health-focused clinical rotation and an accredited naturopathic residency with additional training in chronic infections and mold illness.
Dr. Maya Sankaran, ND earned her Doctorate of Naturopathic Medicine from the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Prior to becoming a naturopathic doctor, Dr. Maya worked in research and development as a chemical engineer, developing sustainable packaging materials. Dr. Maya credits her engineering background for shaping her thorough, root cause-focused approach to clinical care.
